September 11, 2015

FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT
Construction activity is ongoing on sound walls and retaining walls along the northbound and southbound I-5, between Orr & Day Road and the Florence Avenue Bridge.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY & PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT
Crews have started work on driveways on Union Street, between San Antonio Drive and Paddison Avenue. On Friday, Sept. 11, construction crews will start pouring new driveways. Residents are advised not to park in driveways or Union Street while this work is being conducted. Concrete driveways need 3 days to cure and residents are asked not to drive over concrete for that period of time. Work will take place weekdays from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is expected to be completed by Tuesday, Sept. 15.

On Monday Sept. 14 and Tuesday Sept. 15, two lanes of northbound Norwalk Boulevard will be closed between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The left turn lane will be used for through traffic during the day. The left turn pocket of southbound Norwalk Boulevard onto southbound I-5 on-ramp will also be closed. Motorists will be detoured to continue south on Norwalk Boulevard / San Antonio Drive, turn left on Firestone Boulevard, then turn left onto Rosecrans Avenue to access the southbound I-5 on-ramp.

Night work on Pioneer Boulevard will resume Monday, Sept. 14 and will continue nightly through Wednesday, Sept. 16 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. There will be a 15-hour extended full closure of northbound and southbound Pioneer Boulevard at I-5, from 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 to noon on Saturday, Sept. 19.

ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT
On Friday night, Sept. 11 crews will begin moving the pile driving crane into place to start work at Rosecrans Avenue bridge at I-5. This work  will require two consecutive weekends of closures on Rosecrans Avenue. Work is scheduled to take place Friday night, Sept. 11, Saturday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 19.

Pile driving operations will take place between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12 and Saturday, Sept. 19. The detour map below highlights the recommended detour route while Rosecrans Avenue is closed. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.
Rosecrans Avenue will be closed to all through traffic underneath I-5 at the following times:
• From 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 to 5 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12
• From 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12
• From 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19
*Please note, the I-5 on and off-ramps at Rosecrans Avenue may also be closed within the times listed above.

CARMENITA ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT
The southbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp will be closed for paving activity, daily between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 15 through Thursday, Sept. 17.

Daytime pile driving activity is underway to construct the new northbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp and the retaining walls at the new Excelsior / Carmenita intersection; this work will be completed the week of Sept. 6. This work will take place weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

Crews are tentatively planning to close Carmenita Road (northbound and southbound), between Alondra Boulevard and Firestone Boulevard, for striping work. This work will take place from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

The intersection of Excelsior Drive and Carmenita Road is closed temporarily, while the intersection is reconstructed to tie in with the new bridge. Also, the northbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp has been temporarily reconfigured. Motorists that exit northbound I-5 at Carmenita will be directed to turn right on Excelsior Drive, left on Spring Avenue and left on Pumice Street to access Carmenita Road. Click the map below for more information regarding the new off-ramp configuration.

As a result of the traffic shift onto the new Carmenita bridge, the traffic pattern at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Carmenita Road has been temporarily detoured; motorists exiting southbound I-5 at Carmenita will only be permitted to continue straight on Firestone.
