I-5 Corridor Improvements - Week of October 26, 2015

October 26, 2015

FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT
The week of Oct. 26, crews will conduct work to remove and replace the existing traffic signals at the intersection of Roseton Avenue and Florence Avenue. Construction activity is ongoing on sound walls and retaining walls along the northbound and southbound I-5, between Orr & Day Road and the Florence Avenue Bridge.

Shoring activity and retaining wall demolition is still underway along the Orr and Day railroad bridge, which passes underneath the I-5 freeway. This work will take place weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately the next three to four weeks.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY & PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT
Pile driving activity at Imperial Highway has been partially completed. Pile driving activity at Pioneer Boulevard is underway. This work will be conducted weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through Monday, Oct. 26. Once pile driving is completed at Pioneer Boulevard, the contractor will move back to Imperial Highway.

Construction of the concrete barrier separating Union Street and the new Southbound Frontage Road has been completed. On Wednesday, Oct. 28 crews will be conducting paving operations on Union Street, between Paddison Avenue and San Antonio Drive. In order to complete the final paving, Union Street will be closed to all traffic between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Temporary "No Parking" signs will be posted at least 48 hours in advance of this activity. These signs will be marked with the date and times of the parking restriction. Residents are reminded that this work will be performed early in the morning and are advised not to park on Union Street the night before. Vehicles parked on Union Street during the parking restriction may be towed, at the owner's expense, to allow the paving work to proceed.

Additional paving activity on Norwalk Boulevard / San Antonio Drive is scheduled Thursday night, Oct. 29. This work will require a complete closure of Norwalk Boulevard / San Antonio Drive, between Olive Street and Adoree Street, from 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29 to 5 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30. Changeable message signs and detour signs to notify the public and direct traffic will be placed in the field in advance of this work. The closure area is shown on the map below in red; the detour route is highlighted in blue. For additional information regarding this work, please visit the project Google map.

ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT
Pile driving activity at the Rosecrans Avenue bridge at I-5 is scheduled to resume Saturday, Oct. 31 and will continue for three consecutive Saturdays. Once pile driving resumes, this work will require daytime and nighttime lane reductions and closures on Rosecrans Avenue at I-5. Pile driving activity will be conducted between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Rosecrans Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5 will be closed to traffic, as well as eastbound and westbound Rosecrans Avenue underneath I-5 on Saturday, Oct. 31, Saturday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 14, between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Nightly closures are still in effect on Rosecrans Avenue underneath I-5 (Monday through Saturday nights), as crews conduct work on the bridge bents at the undercrossing. Rosecrans Avenue will be closed to through traffic underneath I-5 for the next several weeks, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Please note, the I-5 on- and off-ramps at Rosecrans Avenue may also be closed intermittently.

Motorists will be directed to follow the detour routes highlighted in green on the map below, when Rosecrans Avenue is closed at I-5.

CARMENITA ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT
Next week crews will begin pile driving activity along the southbound I-5, south of the Carmenita Road bridge. Pile driving activity will take place weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., and will be ongoing for approximately the next one to two weeks. Please be advised, this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

The intersection of Excelsior Drive and Carmenita Road is closed temporarily, while the intersection is reconstructed to tie in with the new bridge. Also, the northbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp has been temporarily reconfigured. Motorists that exit northbound I-5 at Carmenita will be directed to turn right on Excelsior Drive, left on Spring Avenue and left on Pumice Street to access Carmenita Road. Click the map below for more information regarding the new off-ramp configuration.

As a result of the traffic shift onto the new Carmenita bridge, the traffic pattern at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Carmenita Road has been temporarily detoured; motorists exiting southbound I-5 at Carmenita Road will only be permitted to continue straight on Firestone.
