Week of July 31, 2016

FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Beginning as early as Aug. 2 crews will resume daytime work on the cul-de-sacs along Dollison Drive in the City of Downey. This work will take place between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., weekdays (Monday through Friday) for approximately the next two weeks. Residents in this area have been notified of this work.

Pile driving activity along Florence Avenue is ongoing and will continue through next week. Work will be conducted weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

Work on the drainage system on Longworth Avenue has been postponed a few weeks. Residents in the vicinity of this work will be notified once the new start date is scheduled. The work will include excavating asphalt to dig a trench, installing a new drainage pipe, backfilling the area and placing temporary asphalt. Residents' driveways along the north side of Longworth Avenue may be temporarily impacted for one day while this work is completed; additional information will be provided once the work is scheduled.

Work is underway along Dollison Drive and Orr and Day Road in Downey and Santa Fe Springs, to construct cul-de-sacs and/or realigning streets adjacent to northbound and southbound I-5. To complete this work, construction fencing will be repositioned to allow adequate room for the work area.

Crews are working to form soundwalls along northbound and southbound I-5. Roadway excavation is underway behind k-rail and the construction fencing, along Mondon Avenue between Cecilia Street and Buell Street. Over the next few weeks crews will be pouring concrete for the new soundwall adjacent to southbound I-5. This work will be conducted weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately the next two to three weeks.

Finally, work is ongoing on the Orr and Day railroad bridge, which runs perpendicular to I-5, underneath the freeway, south of Florence Avenue.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY& PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT

As crews work on Imperial Highway, Pioneer Boulevard and Norwalk Boulevard bridges at I-5, one lane in each direction will be closed on each street (at I-5) during the daytime, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Work is underway on the detention basin on Adoree Street / Zeus Street; this work will include grading, excavation and removal of the sidewalk on Zeus Street. This work will be conducted during the daytime, Monday through Fridays, and is expected to be ongoing for approximately three months.

ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT

Next week, crews will be removing and installing shoring and adjusting k-rail along Rosecrans Avenue. This work will require full nighttime closures of Rosecrans Avenue (to motorists and pedestrians) in both directions underneath I-5, nightly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday, August 1 and Friday, August 5. The closure areas are shown on the map below in red; motorists will be directed to follow the detour routes highlighted in green. For additional information regarding these closures, please visit the project Google map

After completing the traffic shift along northbound I-5, motorists are now driving on the newly constructed center lanes of the freeway. In addition to performing the traffic shift, crews permanently closed the old northbound I-5 on-ramp at Rosecrans Avenue. A new northbound on-ramp will be reconstructed with access directly from Rosecrans Avenue and will open in 2017. In the meantime, motorists can use the newly reopened northbound I-5 on-ramp at Carmenita Road or the existing northbound on-ramps at Norwalk Boulevard or Imperial Highway.

Pile driving activity is underway adjacent to northbound I-5 near Rosecrans Avenue. This work will be conducted intermittently for the next several months, weekdays (Monday through Friday), between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. While this work is underway, flaggers will be on site to direct traffic, while crews transfer piles from the contractor's yard onto the construction site. While transferring piles, portions of Bloomfield Avenue, between Rosecrans Avenue and Markdale Avenue may be temporarily blocked during the daytime.

Pile driving activity is needed as crews construct structure foundations for the new retaining walls and soundwalls in the project area. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

CARMENITA ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT

This month, crews completed a traffic shift along southbound I-5, between Rosecrans Avenue and Valley View Avenue, to realign traffic from the center lanes, to the newly completed outside lanes of the freeway. In addition to this traffic shift, the southbound I-5 Carmenita Road on- and off-ramps have been opened to traffic and South Firestone Boulevard has been realigned to its permanent configuration.

Finally, daytime work is ongoing behind k-rail in the center median to construct the new median barrier rail between Alondra Boulevard and Shoemaker Avenue on I-5.

Please visit the project Google map for detailed detour information regarding these closures.
