I-5 Corridor Improvements Between Orange County Line to the I-605

January 13, 2017

Week of January 15, 2017

FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Drainage system installation and construction along Longworth Avenue between Harvest Avenue and Orr and Day Road (adjacent to northbound I-5), is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of January 23, weather permitting. Work will be conducted weekdays between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and is expected to take one to two weeks to complete.

Crews will be performing signal work at Florence Avenue and Orr and Day Road, intermittently over the next two weeks, weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. This work will require lane reductions on Florence Avenue at Orr and Day Road; please expect delays and use an alternate route if possible.

In addition, crews will be performing drainage work underneath the northbound I-605 connector to southbound I-5 freeway; this work will require the connector to be closed for up to 55 hours, tentatively the weekend of January 20 through 22 and/or the weekend of January 27 through 29, weather permitting. Motorists will be directed to exit northbound I-605 at Imperial Highway, travel east on Imperial Highway, then south on SB Frontage Road to access the southbound I-5 freeway on-ramp. The connector is shown on red in the map below and the detour route is shown in blue

Once the exact date(s) and time(s) for this work is finalized, additional information will be available on the project Google map and website.

Pile driving operations have tentatively stopped along northbound I-5 at Florence Avenue and will resume in early 2017.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY & PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT

The contractor will be performing soundwall work along northbound I-5, on Markdale Avenue (south of Norwalk Boulevard). Work will be performed weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Construction crews are placing block wall along Spry Street and Arlee Avenue. This work will be performed weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

As crews work on Imperial Highway, Norwalk Boulevard and Pioneer Boulevard bridges at I-5, one lane in each direction will be closed on each street (at I-5) during the daytime, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT

The week of January 15, crews will perform nighttime work on the southbound I-5 at Rosecrans Avenue. This work will require one lane on southbound I-5 to be closed at Rosecrans Avenue as well as the closure of the southbound I-5 Rosecrans Avenue off-ramp. These closures will be taken intermittently, Monday through Friday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., weather permitting. Motorists will be directed to exit southbound I-5 at Carmenita Road while the southbound I-5 Rosecrans Avenue off-ramp is closed.

In the coming weeks, crews plan to close N. Firestone Boulevard from Rosecrans Avenue to Bloomfield/Markdale Avenue, for approximately six months. An exact start date for this closure has not been set, but will be widely publicized once the work is scheduled. The closure area is shown in red on the map below; additional information, including detailed detour routes will be provided once the work is scheduled.

Rosecrans Avenue will be closed intermittently to all through traffic (motorists and pedestrians) in both directions underneath I-5, Monday through Friday nights between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. These closures are needed as crews begin pouring the Rosecrans Avenue bridge. Nighttime closures on Rosecrans Avenue closures will continue intermittently for the next six months. For detour information visit the project Google Map.

Pile driving activity is ongoing adjacent to northbound I-5 near Rosecrans Avenue. This work will be performed intermittently for the next several months, Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  As this work is underway, flaggers will be on site to direct traffic, while crews transfer piles from the contractor's yard onto the construction site.

CARMENITA ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Nightly lane reductions are planned on I-5 at Carmenita Road (one northbound lane and one southbound lane), Tuesday, January 17 through Friday, January 20, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. These lane closures are needed for electrical work and clean up.

Electrical work along the shoulders of the northbound and southbound I-5 freeway at Carmenita Road is ongoing. This work will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

In addition to this work, landscape and irrigation work is ongoing along Frontage Road, N. Firestone Boulevard and S. Firestone Boulevard. This work will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

VALLEY VIEW AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Starting Wednesday, January 18, the SOUTHBOUND I-5 VALLEY VIEW AVENUE OFF-RAMP WILL BE CLOSED and LANES ON THE VALLEY VIEW AVENUE BRIDGE WILL BE REDUCED TO TWO LANES (one lane in each direction.) Expect delays due to the lane reductions. If possible use alternative routes (shown on the map below) and avoid Valley View Avenue between Alondra and Artesia Boulevards.

Portable changeable message signs will be placed in the vicinity to notify the motoring public.

Multiple utility relocations are ongoing throughout the construction site. There will be intermittent lane reductions on both N. Firestone Boulevard, S. Firestone Boulevard and Valley View Avenue. Work will be performed Monday through Friday.

A portion of S. Firestone Boulevard at Coyote Creek channel is now closed for utility relocation for a period of four to six months. Work will be conducted Monday to Friday, between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Businesses along Firestone Boulevard will remain open and detour signs will be posted. Also be advised that construction work may be noisy due to construction equipment moving on- and off-site, truck back-up alarms, and other construction related noise.
