Santa Ana Freeway Interstate 5 - 55-Hour Closure Starts Friday night, Sept. 26

September 24, 2014

Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) South Corridor Improvement Project

Santa Fe Springs - the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will implement a 55-Hour Weekend Closure on the Santa Ana Freeway (Interstate 5) in both directions from Carmenita Road to Valley View Avenue this weekend, starting Friday night, September 26 through Monday morning, September 29. Crews will begin closing ramps and lanes and setting k-rail concrete barriers on Friday night at 10 p.m. to prepare for full freeway and connector closures that begin at 1 a.m. (Saturday morning, 9/27).

Motorists can expect overnight full freeway closures (1 a.m. to 7 a.m.)  and partial lane closures during the day and night from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. within these limits.  Two freeway connectors leading to northbound and southbound I-5 will be closed throughout the weekend:   the southbound  I-605 connector to southbound I-5;  and the westbound SR-91 connector to northbound I-5.

The 55-Hour Weekend Closure is necessary to pave and stripe lanes in the center median roadway for a lane reconfiguration on southbound I-5.  On Monday morning 9/29, motorists will experience a traffic switch to the center of the roadway. The existing southbound lanes will be the new construction work zone for the ongoing roadway and shoulder widening and soundwall construction. Additionally, the southbound I-5 Alondra Blvd. on-ramp will permanently close.

The 55-Hour Weekend Closure includes:
• Two freeway connectors will be fully closed throughout the weekend:
