FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Test pile driving activity adjacent to the Florence Avenue interchange at the I-5 was completed last week. The next pile driving activity is approximately eight months away. 

Dollison Drive (between Quinn Street and southbound I-5 on-ramp) has closed permanently, and the southbound I-5 freeway on-ramp on Dollison Drive. As an alternate, motorists are encouraged to access the southbound I-5 freeway on-ramp on Studebaker Road. In addition, a long-term closure of the southbound I-5 on-ramp on Florence Avenue began in late-April and will be in place through January 2018.

 IMPERIAL HIGHWAY & PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT

Crews are preparing to shift the southbound I-5 lanes of traffic (between Pioneer Boulevard and the Silverbow Avenue pedestrian bridge), onto new pavement along the widened, outside portion of the freeway. This traffic shift is tentatively scheduled to take place in June 2015. Additional information will be provided once this work is scheduled.

Construction activity is ongoing with several sound walls along the northbound and southbound I-5. In addition, work continues on the frontage roads along the northbound I-5 (Adoree Street) and southbound I-5 (Southbound Frontage Road). The contractor completed paving work on Adoree Street (between Kalnor Avenue and Paddison Avenue). In a few weeks, crews will shift the work area and temporarily close Adoree Street between Norwalk Boulevard and Kalnor Avenue; access will be maintained for local residents. Adoree Street will not be accessible from Norwalk Boulevard.  

ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT

The contractor is preparing to reopen the Rosecrans Avenue on and off-ramp to the southbound I-5 freeway in June. Before these ramps are open to traffic, crews must reconstruct portions of Rosecrans Avenue at I-5. This wok will require  24-hour closure of eastbound Rosecrans Avenue (between Bloomfield Avenue and Firestone Boulevard), from 9 p.m. Friday, May 15 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 16. Motorists traveling east on Rosecrans Avenue will be detoured to turn right on Bloomfield Avenue, turn left on  Alondra Boulevard, and turn left on Carmenita Road to reach Rosecrans Avenue. A similar closure of westbound Rosecrans Avenue is tentatively scheduled to take place the weekend of May 29-31; Additional information will be sent in advance of that work.

Also this weekend, crews are preparing to shift lanes of traffic on the southbound I-5 onto new pavement along the widened, outside portion of the freeway. Southbound I-5 freeway will be closed between Imperial Highway and Valley View Avenue, from 12:01 to 5 a.m. Monday, May 18, as crews restripe the freeway and install k-rail. Motorists will notice the new traffic pattern on Monday morning, May 18. In addition to the southbound I-5 full freeway closure, the southbound I-605 to southbound I-5 freeway connector will be closed from 11 p.m. Sunday, May 17 to 5 a.m. Monday, May 18l For more information, including recommended detour routes, please visit the project Google map.

CARMENITA ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Crews will close the northbound I-5 between Valley View Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue, from 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 15 to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 16. During the week of May 17, nightly full freeway closures are scheduled  (Sunday night through Thursday nights) so crews can remove falsework from the Carmenita Road bridge. Northbound I-5 will be closed (Valley View Avenue to Rosecrans Avenue) from 11:59 p.m. Sunday, May 17 to 5 a.m. Monday, May 18. Southbound I-5 will be closed (Rosecrans Avenue to Valley View Avenue) nightly between 11:59 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday through Thursday. In addition to the northbound I-5 full freeway closure, the westbound SR-91 to northbound I-5 connector will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, May 15 to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 16 and from 11 p.m. Sunday, May 17 to 5 a.m. Monday, May 18. For more information regarding this work, including recommended detour routes, please visit the project Google map.

On May 29, crews are planning to shift lanes of traffic along northbound I-5, onto newly completed pavement in the center of the freeway; this will require a full nighttime closure of the northbound I-5 freeway. In June 2015 (tentative), crews will shift  traffic from the existing Carmenita Road bridge to the new bridge which is being built alongside the original structure. The traffic shift will include changes to the traffic pattern at Firestone Boulevard and Carmenita Road. More detailed information will be provided before the work is conducted.
