I-5 Corridor Improvements SR-134 to Buena Vista Street

The southbound I-5 Buena Vista Street on- and off-ramps at San Fernando Boulevard will be closed for emergency paving tonight (Thursday, April 20) at 10 p.m. through tomorrow morning (Friday, April 21) at 6 a.m.

There will be a 55-hour closure of Buena Vista Street, in both directions, between San Fernando Boulevard and Winona Avenue beginning April 21 at 9 p.m. through April 24 at 6 a.m. to remove falsework from the Buena Vista Bridge.  Detours are below.

Please remember, graffiti is a crime.  Violators will be prosecuted.



Work will occur during daytime hours unless otherwise noted.

SR-134 to Magnolia Boulevard

Sonora, Western, Alameda Bridges: Crews are removing bridge shoring at the median of the Sonora, Western and Alameda Bridges.

Providencia Bridge:  Crews are working on the deck for the bridge.  

 Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street

 Empire Avenue: At southbound I-5 and Empire Avenue, crews are constructing the approach slabs (the transition between roadway pavement and the bridge).  Crews are also crushing at the future southbound Empire Avenue off-ramp and erecting a portable concrete batch plant at the future Empire Avenue and I-5 on- and off-ramp intersection.

Victory Place Separation:  Crews are forming abutment and bent footings.

Hollywood Way to Burbank Boulevard (Railroad):  Crews are removing the shoofly (temporary tracks). 

 Northbound I-5 between Buena Vista Street and Cohasset Street: Crews are constructing the walls and removing trees and other vegetation along San Fernando Boulevard.

Southbound I-5 at Buena Vista Street:  Crews are constructing approach slabs and removing falsework.

Southbound I-5 between Buena Vista Street and Burbank Boulevard:

Crews are finishing grading of aggregate base.


SR-134 to Magnolia Boulevard

Northbound and Southbound I-5 Lane Closures.

  • Intermittent nighttime lane closures on both northbound and southbound I-5 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • Nighttime lane closures of the number 2, 3, and 4 (far right) lanes on Thursday, April 20 at 10 p.m. through Friday, April 21 at 6 a.m. 

Intermittent Daytime Closures on Flower Street.

Flower Street under the I-5 bridge will be closed intermittently during the day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lane Closures for Sonora Avenue, Western Avenue and Alameda Avenue.

Intermittent daytime lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., under the I-5 bridge. Traffic will be maintained in both directions. Some sidewalk closures are expected as well. A pedestrian detour will be provided.

Southbound I-5 Ramp Closures.

Nighttime closure of the southbound I-5 Verdugo Road on-ramp and the southbound I-5 Alameda Avenue off-ramp on Thursday, April 20 at 10 p.m. through Friday, April 21 at 6 a.m.

Magnolia Boulevard to Buena Vista Street

Buena Vista Street Closures.

  • Intermittent daytime and nighttime closures of Buena Vista Street, in both directions, between San Fernando Boulevard and Winona Avenue.

Northbound and Southbound I-5 Lane Closures.

Intermittent nighttime northbound and southbound I-5 lane closures between Magnolia Boulevard and Hollywood Way from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

On- and Off-Ramp Closures.

Intermittent on- and off-ramp closures at Buena Vista Street, San Fernando Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.  Detours will be provided.

Empire Avenue Soft Closure.

Planning for a long-term soft closure of Empire Avenue between Wilson Avenue and Victory Place in the near future.  A detour will be posted.
