September 25, 2015

FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Construction activity is ongoing on sound walls and retaining walls along the northbound and southbound I-5, between Orr & Day Road and the Florence Avenue Bridge.

The week of Sept. 27, crews will begin retaining wall demolition and shoring activity along the Orr and Day railroad bridge, which passes underneath the I-5 freeway. This work will take place weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately the next four weeks.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY & PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT
Construction of the concrete barrier separating Union Street and the new Southbound Frontage Road is ongoing. On Friday, Sept. 25, cars will no longer be permitted to park on Frontage Road. Instead motorists are advised to park on Union Street.

Pile driving activity is ongoing along I-5 at both Imperial Highway and Norwalk Boulevard. This work is being conducted weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately the next two weeks. While pile driving is underway, crews may close one lane in each direction at both Imperial Highway and Norwalk Boulevard at I-5.

ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT
Pile driving activity is underway at Rosecrans Avenue bridge at I-5. This work will require one more weekend of closures on Rosecrans Avenue. Work is scheduled to take place Saturday, Sept. 26.

Pile driving operations will take place between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26. The detour map below highlights the recommended detour route while Rosecrans Avenue is closed. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.
Rosecrans Avenue will be closed to all through traffic underneath I-5 on
Saturday, Sept. 26 from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Please note, the I-5 on and off-ramps at Rosecrans Avenue may also be closed within the times listed above.

On Monday, Sept. 28 crews plan to break down the pile driving rig and move it to another area on the job site. In order to move the rig, crews must temporarily close eastbound Rosecrans Avenue at I-5, as well as the southbound I-5 Rosecrans Avenue on-ramp, Monday, Sept. 28 between 3 and 5 a.m. Motorists who wish to access southbound I-5 will be detoured to turn right on Bloomfield Avenue, turn left on Alondra Boulevard, turn left on Carmenita Road, then turn right on Firestone Boulevard to access the southbound I-5 on-ramp.

CARMENITA ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT
A nighttime full freeway closure of I-5 (northbound and southbound) at Carmenita Road, is scheduled next week so that crews can maneuver equipment across the freeway. Northbound and southbound I-5 will be closed from 1 to 4 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25.

Northbound I-5 will be closed at Valley View Avenue; motorists will exit Valley View Avenue, turn left on Firestone Boulevard, turn right on Valley View Avenue, turn left on Rosecrans Avenue, then turn right on Bloomfield Avenue to access northbound I-5 on-ramp. Southbound I-5 will be closed at Carmenita Road; motorists will exit Carmenita Road, on-ramp traffic merges onto Firestone Boulevard, continue straight on Firestone Boulevard to access southbound I-5 on-ramp.

Next week crews will begin pile driving activity along the southbound I-5, for construction of the new southbound I-5 Carmenita Road on-ramp. Pile driving activity will take place weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Please be advised, this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

The intersection of Excelsior Drive and Carmenita Road is closed temporarily, while the intersection is reconstructed to tie in with the new bridge. Also, the northbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp has been temporarily reconfigured. Motorists that exit northbound I-5 at Carmenita will be directed to turn right on Excelsior Drive, left on Spring Avenue and left on Pumice Street to access Carmenita Road. Click the map below for more information regarding the new off-ramp configuration.

As a result of the traffic shift onto the new Carmenita bridge, the traffic pattern at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Carmenita Road has been temporarily detoured; motorists exiting southbound I-5 at Carmenita will only be permitted to continue straight on Firestone.
