Construction Activities

FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Crews began pile driving activity adjacent to the Florence Avenue interchange. This work will take place within the contractor's yard along northbound I-5, just south of the Florence Avenue bridge. Pile driving activity will be conducted weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.; This work will be ongoing for approximately four to six weeks. This activity is needed as crews construct the foundation for the new Florence Avenue bridge, as well as the new retaining walls, soundwalls and freeway on- and off-ramps. Please be advised, this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

Crews are working to form soundwalls along northbound and southbound I-5. Roadway excavation is underway behind k-rail and the construction fencing, along Mondon Avenue between Cecilia Street and Buell Street. Over the next few weeks crews will be pouring concrete for the new soundwall adjacent to southbound I-5. This work will be conducted weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately the next two to three weeks.

Shoring activity is still underway along the Orr and Day railroad bridge, which passes underneath the I-5 freeway. This work will take place weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately the next three to four weeks.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY & PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT

Adoree Street and Frontage Road, have both been opened to through traffic between Imperial Highway and Norwalk Boulevard.

Construction of the retaining wall along Mondon Avenue, between Tina Street and Bayla Street is ongoing.

Access on Mondon Avenue is temporarily limited to local traffic only, for approximately the next 2 months, as crews work to complete improvements in this area. This work will be conducted weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

As crews work on Imperial Highway and Norwalk Boulevard bridges at I-5, one lane in each direction will be closed at I-5 during the daytime.

Imperial Highway will be closed to through traffic underneath I-5, nightly Monday, Feb. 15 through Friday, Feb. 19, between 8:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., as crews strip bridge falsework. Changeable message signs have been placed in the field in advance of this work and detour signs to notify the public and direct traffic will be placed at the time of the closure. The closure area is shown on the map below in red; the detour route is highlighted in blue

CARMENITA ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT

There will be no through access on Arctic Circle and Molette Street starting 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 through 9:00 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 21.

The intersection of Excelsior Drive and Carmenita Road is closed temporarily, while the intersection is reconstructed to tie in with the new bridge. Also, the northbound I-5 Carmenita Road off-ramp has been temporarily reconfigured. Motorists that exit northbound I-5 at Carmenita Road will be directed to turn right on Excelsior Drive, left on Spring Avenue and left on Pumice Street to access Carmenita Road. Click the map below for more information regarding the new off-ramp configuration.

As a result of the traffic shift onto the new Carmenita Road bridge, the traffic pattern at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Carmenita Road has been temporarily detoured; motorists exiting southbound I-5 at Carmenita Road will only be permitted to continue straight on Firestone Boulevard.
