FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Construction crews, in partnership with the city of Santa Fe Springs water inspection, will temporarily interrupt water service to residences located on the newly constructed cul-de-sac on Buell Street in the city of Santa Fe Springs. The water interruption will take place on Wednesday, September 7, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and will take approximately one day to complete.

Crews have resumed pile driving activity along northbound I-5 at Florence Avenue. Work will be conducted weekdays, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and will be ongoing intermittently for the next four to six weeks. Please be advised that this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

Crews are continuing daytime work on the cul-de-sacs along Dollison Drive in the City of Downey. This work will take place intermittently between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday for approximately two weeks.

Work on the drainage system on Longworth Avenue has been postponed. Residents in the vicinity of this work will be notified once the new start date is scheduled. The work will include excavating asphalt to dig a trench, installing a new drainage pipe, backfilling the area and placing temporary asphalt. Residents' driveways along the north side of Longworth Avenue may be temporarily impacted for one day while this work is completed; additional information will be provided once the work is scheduled.

Crews are working to form soundwalls along northbound and southbound I-5. Roadway excavation is underway behind k-rail and the construction fencing, along Mondon Avenue between Cecilia Street and Buell Street. Over the next few weeks crews will be pouring concrete for the new soundwall adjacent to southbound I-5. This work will be conducted Monday through Friday between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately the next one to two weeks.

Finally, work is ongoing on the Orr and Day railroad bridge, which runs perpendicular to I-5, underneath the freeway, south of Florence Avenue.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY& PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT

Beginning Tuesday, September 6, construction crews will be reducing Norwalk/San Antonio Boulevard to one lane in each direction. Lane reductions are necessary to install the new deck drain on Norwalk Boulevard. These lane reductions will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Construction crews began clearing vegetation, forming retaining walls, and moving construction equipment along Spry Street and Arlee Avenue. This work will be conducted weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately three months. Residents are advised to take precautions to ensure pedestrian and roadway safety. Please be advised, work may be noisy due to construction equipment moving on- and off-site, truck back up alarms, and other construction related noise.

Starting next week, crews will be performing landscaping activities along Mondon Avenue between Gem and Pluton Streets. Paving work will also be performed on driveways along Mondon Avenue between Tina and Pantheon Streets. This work will be conducted weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Crews will be placing new rock blanket at the following intersections:

  • Adoree Street and Imperial Highway
  • Kalnor Avenue and Imperial Highway
  • Union Street and Paddison Avenue
  • Imperial Highway and S Frontage Road

Retaining wall work adjacent to northbound I-5, near Norwalk Boulevard, will be ongoing for the next four weeks. Work will be conducted during the day, Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Also, a concrete barrier will be installed on both northbound and southbound I-5, just south of the Orr and Day bridge.

As crews work on Imperial Highway and Pioneer Boulevard bridges at I-5, one lane in each direction will be closed on each street (at I-5) during the daytime, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT

Next week, crews will close N Firestone Boulevard, between Rosecrans Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue/Markdale Avenue, intermittently between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday, September 5 through Friday, September 9.These closures are needed for crews to complete the construction of the new soundwall.

Beginning Friday, September 16, at 9 p.m. night crews will close the northbound I-5 Rosecrans Avenue off-ramp for approximately three to four months. This closure is needed as crews continue construction to widen the I-5 freeway; the ramp must be reconstructed and realigned in order to accomodate the newly widened freeway. The closure area is shown on the map below in red; motorists will be directed to exit Carmenita Road and turn right, then proceed straight on Carmenita Road to access Rosecrans Avenue. The detour route is highlighted in green. Detour signs will be posted to direct motorists. For additional information regarding these closures, please visit the project Google Map

Pile driving activity is underway adjacent to northbound I-5 near Rosecrans Avenue. This work will be conducted intermittently for the next several months, Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  As this work is underway, flaggers will be on site to direct traffic, while crews transfer piles from the contractor's yard onto the construction site. While transferring piles, portions of Bloomfield Avenue, between Rosecrans Avenue and Markdale Avenue may be temporarily blocked during the daytime. Pile driving activity is needed as crews construct structure foundations for the new retaining walls and soundwalls in the project area. Please be advised this work may be loud and disruptive due to equipment noise, vibration and pounding related to pile driving activity.

After completing the traffic shift along northbound I-5, motorists are now driving on the newly constructed center lanes of the freeway. In addition to performing the traffic shift, crews permanently closed the old northbound I-5 on-ramp at Rosecrans Avenue. A new northbound on-ramp will be reconstructed with access directly from Rosecrans Avenue and will open in 2017. In the meantime, motorists can use the newly reopened northbound I-5 on-ramp at Carmenita Road or the existing northbound on-ramps at Norwalk Boulevard or Imperial Highway.

CARMENITA ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Beginning Monday, September 12 through Friday, September 16, construction crews will close the Westbound SR-91 connector to northbound I-5 freeway, nightly, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The closure areas are shown on the map below in red.

In July, crews completed a traffic shift along southbound I-5, between Rosecrans Avenue and Valley View Avenue, to realign traffic from the center lanes, to the newly completed outside lanes of the freeway. In addition to this traffic shift, the southbound I-5 Carmenita Road on- and off-ramps have been opened to traffic and South Firestone Boulevard has been realigned to its permanent configuration.
