October 21, 2016

Week of October 23, 2016

FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Pile driving operations have tentatively stopped along northbound I-5 at Florence Avenue and will resume in early January 2017.

Crews are continuing daytime work on the cul-de-sacs along Dollison Drive in the City of Downey and Buell Street in the City of Santa Fe Springs. Work is intermittent, Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for approximately two weeks.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY & PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT

Construction crews are clearing vegetation, forming retaining walls, and moving construction equipment along Spry Street and Arlee Avenue. This work will be performed weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately three months. Residents are advised to take precautions to ensure pedestrian and roadway safety.

In order to install directional signage, construction crews will close eastbound Norwalk Boulevard. Work will be conducted Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

As crews work on Imperial Highway, Norwalk Boulevard and Pioneer Boulevard bridges at I-5, one lane in each direction will be closed on each street (at I-5) during the daytime, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

ROSECRANS AVENUE & BLOOMFIELD AVENUE BRIDGE PROJECT

For approximately the next two weeks, crews will intermittently stop traffic on northbound and southbound I-5 between Rosecrans Avenue and Norwalk Boulevard, Monday through Friday nights, between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. as construction crews relocate power lines across the Bloomfield Avenue bridge. These traffic stops will occur hourly and last approximately fifteen minutes.

There are no scheduled closures at Rosecrans Avenue this week. Nightly closures, in both directions underneath I-5, will resume in approximately one week.

Crews will close N. Firestone Boulevard, between Rosecrans Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue/Markdale Avenue, intermittently between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday, October 24 through Friday, October 28. These closures are needed as crews complete the construction of the new soundwall.

Pile driving activity is underway adjacent to northbound I-5 near Rosecrans Avenue. This work will be conducted intermittently for the next several months, Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  As this work is underway, flaggers will be on site to direct traffic, while crews transfer piles from the contractor's yard onto the construction site. While transferring piles, portions of Bloomfield Avenue, between Rosecrans Avenue and Markdale Avenue may be temporarily blocked during the daytime. Pile driving activity is needed as crews construct structure foundations for the new retaining walls and soundwalls in the project area.

CARMENITA ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Crews are continuing sandblasting work on the sound wall along Firestone Boulevard. This work will take place weekdays, Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and will be ongoing for approximately one to two months. While work is being done on the soundwall, there will be no through access to Firestone Boulevard between Shoemaker Avenue and Dinard Avenue. No through access signs will be placed in the vicinity to alert motorists of the closures. For more information on the location of these closures, please visit the project Google Map.

VALLEY VIEW AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Next month construction crews will begin on the Valley View Avenue Interchange Project, which will add a High Occupancy Vehicle and mixed-flow lane in each direction along approximately one and a half miles of I-5 at Valley View Avenue, from Artesia Boulevard undercrossing to North Fork Coyote Creek. The project extends through the cities of Buena Park, La Mirada, Cerritos, and Santa Fe Springs.

Three bridges will be reconstructed: the Valley View Avenue Bridge at I-5, the North Firestone Boulevard Bridge over Coyote Creek, and the I-5 freeway bridge at Coyote Creek. Lanes will be kept open on the Valley View Avenue Bridge during construction. There will also be improvements to the interchange at Valley View Avenue and adjacent frontage roads. The new bridge will include a railroad overpass.

The pipeline relocation schedule will be Monday to Friday, between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Within the coming months it will be necessary to close a portion of South Firestone Boulevard, in the vicinity of the Coyote Creek Channel, for an extended period of time. Detour signs will be posted at least 14 days prior to the closure. Businesses along Firestone Boulevard will remain open.

Please visit the project Google map for detailed detour information regarding these closures.
