I-5 Corridor Improvements Between Orange County to the I-605
February 10, 2017
Week of Feb. 12, 2017 |
FLORENCE AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT Drainage system installation and construction along Longworth Avenue between Harvest Avenue and Orr and Day Road (adjacent to northbound I-5), should be completed soon. Work is being conducted weekdays between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. and is expected to take one to two weeks to complete. Crews will be performing signal work at Florence Avenue and Orr and Day Road, intermittently over the next two weeks, weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. This work will require lane reductions on Florence Avenue at Orr and Day Road; please expect delays and use an alternate route if possible. Pile driving operations are temporarily on hold along northbound I-5 at Florence Avenue and will resume in early 2017. In late-February or ealry-March (exact date TBD) the contractor will begin work to reconstruct the Florence Avenue bridge over I-5. The bridge will be reconstructed one half at a time, to accommodate the widening of I-5 below the bridge. To accomplish this work, Florence Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Orr and Day Road and Fairford Avenue, for approximately two years. The Florence Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-5 will also be closed during that time. The diagram below outlines the first stage of bridge construction (which will take approximately nine to 12 months to complete), including the temporary lane configuration, related ramp closures, and pedestrian access. To view all construction staging maps for Florence Avenue, visit the project website.
Heavy traffic and delays are expected in the area surrounding Florence Avenue at I-5 once this work begins; motorists are urged to use alternative routes whenever possible. To view all alternative route maps, visit the project website.
Additional information, including the date the contractor plans to start this work, will be widely publicized as soon as it becomes available. IMPERIAL HIGHWAY & PIONEER BOULEVARD PROJECT As crews work on Imperial Highway, Norwalk Boulevard and Pioneer Boulevard bridges at I-5, one lane in each direction will be closed on each street (at I-5) during the daytime, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Rosecrans Avenue will be closed to all through traffic (motorists and pedestrians) in both directions underneath I-5, Monday, Feb. 13 through Friday, Feb. 17 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. These closures are needed as crews remove falsework from the Rosecrans Avenue bridge. Nighttime closures on Rosecrans Avenue will continue intermittently for the next six months. For detour information visit the project Google Map.
Nightly lane reductions are planned on I-5 at Carmenita Road (one northbound lane and one southbound lane), Monday through Friday, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. These lane closures are needed for electrical work and clean up. Electrical work along the shoulders of the northbound and southbound I-5 freeway at Carmenita Road is ongoing. This work will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. In addition to this work, landscape and irrigation work is ongoing along Frontage Road, N. Firestone Boulevard and S. Firestone Boulevard. This work will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. VALLEY VIEW AVENUE INTERCHANGE PROJECT Crews are demolishing one half of the Valley View Ave. bridge at I-5 and removing footings and columns on the freeway. This work will require the full closure of the northbound and southbound I-5 freeway, between Artesia Boulevard and Carmenita Avenue. Access to I-5 from the westbound SR-91 and southbound I-605 will also be closed. Specific closure times and recommended detour routes are outlined below; additional information will be provided on the project Google map.
DETOUR (shown on map below in blue): Exit at Valley View Ave., right on Firestone Blvd., left on Trojan Way, left on Alondra Blvd., left on Freeway Dr. to access northbound I-5 on-ramp. *Please note the northbound I-5 on-ramps at Artesia Boulevard and Valley View Avenue will also be closed.
DETOUR: Motorists will be directed to continue on westbound SR-91, transition onto northbound I-605, then to northbound I-5.
DETOUR (shown on map below in green): Exit at Carmenita Rd., right on Carmenita, left on Artesia Blvd. to access southbound I-5 on-ramp. *Please note, the southbound I-5 on-ramps at Carmenita Road and Valley View Avenue will also be closed during this time.
DETOUR: Motorists will be directed to continue on southbound I-605, transition onto eastbound SR-91, then to southbound I-5.
The contractor will be clearing and grubbing vegetation along the northbound I-5 Valley View on-ramp, weekdays between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Multiple utility relocations are ongoing throughout the construction site. There will be intermittent lane reductions on both N. Firestone Boulevard and S. Firestone Boulevard. Work will be performed Monday through Friday. A portion of S. Firestone Boulevard at Coyote Creek channel is now closed forutility relocation for a period of four to six months. Work will be conducted weekdays between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Businesses along Firestone Boulevard will remain open and detour signs will be posted. For detour information visit the project Google map.
