Traffic Signal Shut-Downs Scheduled at Carmenita/Excelsior Intersection

I-5 South Corridor Improvement Projects

​Norwalk The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has scheduled two six-hour shut downs of the traffic signals at the Carmenita Road/Excelsior Drive intersection for electrical work and utility pole relocation.  The work is part of the I-5 South Corridor widening and the Carmenita Road Bridge Project. The California Highway Patrol will be onsite for traffic control during the following days and times: 

Scheduled Traffic Signal Shut Down at the Carmenita Rd/Excelsior Dr. intersection
• Wednesday, August 20                    9 a.m. to 3 p.m.        
• Wednesday, August 27                    9 a.m. to 3 p.m.   

Local Street Closures:  Tonight and Tomorrow:  
Rosecrans Ave @ I-5 Overcrossing closure: Monday Aug 18, from  9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  
Overnight, Full Closure of eastbound Rosecrans Ave. and one lane of westbound Rosecrans Ave.
Shoemaker Avenue at So. Firestone Blvd.:     Tuesday, Aug 19, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.  

Scheduled Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) Full Freeway Closures:  Coming This Sunday through Thursday 
Nightly, full directional freeway closures will take place on Sunday, August 24 through Thursday August 28 from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m.  All lanes and on-ramps within these limits will reopen in time for the morning commute. Crews will install falsework, a temporary wood structure, at the Silverbow Pedestrian Overcrossing. 

Southbound I-5 Full Freeway Closures: Norwalk/San Antonio Blvd. to Carmenita Rd.
• Nightly, Sunday, Aug 24; Mon, Aug 25; and Tues. Aug 26            from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m.  
            
Northbound I-5 Full Freeway Closures: Carmenita Rd to Norwalk/San Antonio Blvd.
• Nightly, Wednesday, Aug 27 and Thursday. Aug. 28                      from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m.
             
Long-Term Ramp Closures: 
• Southbound I-5 Rosecrans Avenue on-ramp and off-ramp will close on Sunday, Aug 24 at 10 p.m.
The ramps will be closed for approximately nine months (through mid-2015). 

Upcoming Local Street Closures:  
• Rosecrans Ave @ I-5 Overcrossing closure: Sunday, August 24, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Overnight, Full Closure of eastbound Rosecrans Ave. and one lane of westbound Rosecrans Ave. 
The work involves striping and setting k-rail, concrete barriers.

• Imperial Highway, from Pioneer Blvd. to Paddison Ave.:  Nightly, Sunday, August 24 through Friday, August 29 from 10 p.m. to  6 a.m. Imperial Hwy will fully close in both directions.  Marked detours will route motorists around the closure using Pioneer, Firestone, and Norwalk boulevards.   

Ongoing Local Street Closure:  
Intersection of Alondra Blvd., Marquardt Ave. and So. Firestone Blvd is closed through early             September. Upon completion of the work on the bridge and at this location, the Alondra Blvd Bridge will re-open to the public.  Construction is ongoing days, nights and weekends.  Marked detours use 166th St., Carmenita Rd, Alondra Blvd. and Firestone Blvd. 

Ongoing Long-Term Ramp Closures: 
• Northbound I-5 Carmenita Road on-ramp is closed until mid-2016. Detour signs will direct motorists to use the northbound I-5 on-ramp at Rosecrans Ave.  
• Southbound I-5 Imperial Highway on-ramp. (Permanent closure)

Openings! 
• North Firestone Blvd., between LochNevis Ave. and Dinard Ave.  
• Early September - The new Alondra Boulevard Bridge.
