Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) Construction Closures

Nightly Full Freeway and Connector Closures 


Norwalk and Santa Fe Springs - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will conduct overnight FULL FREEWAY CLOSURES on the southbound Santa Ana Freeway (Interstate 5) this week, Monday through Thursday, September 29 to October 2, from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m., from Norwalk Boulevard to Carmenita Road.  Additionally, two of three northbound I-5 lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Alondra Blvd. to Rosecrans Ave., and the southbound I-605 connector to southbound I-5  will fully close nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.  

SOUTHBOUND I-5 DETOUR:   Travelling southbound on I-5, motorists will exit at the Norwalk Blvd/San Antonio Dr., off-ramp.   To re-enter southbound I-5, turn right onto Norwalk Blvd/San Antonio Dr.; left on Rosecrans Ave., right on Carmenita Rd.,  then turn left on Firestone Blvd. 
SOUTHBOUND I-605 CONNECTOR DETOUR:  Portable digital message signs will active directing motorists to continue southbound on I-605 to eastbound SR-91 to reconnect to southbound I-5.  

The work involves installing falsework, the temporary wood structure, for the new Carmenita Road Bridge and paving within the freeway center median. 

Crews and large equipment will be working in various areas within the closure areas.  Please be "Work Zone Alert" and "Slow for the Cone Zone."  The California Highway Patrol will be present to assist with traffic control and enforcement.

CLOSED RAMPS within the I-5 South Corridor Improvement Projects I-605 to Orange Co. line   

• Northbound I-5 Carmenita on-ramp is closed until mid-2016. Use NB I-5 Rosecrans on-ramp.

• Southbound I-5 Imperial Highway on-ramp is permanently closed. 

• Southbound I-5 Imperial Hwy off-ramp is close;  The newly constructed ramp reopens Oct. 4. 

• Southbound I-5 Rosecrans Avenue on-/off-ramps are closed through mid-2015. 

• Southbound I-5 on-ramp at Alondra Blvd. is permanently closed.
